WPA supplies footage for Indiana Jones

Illinois, USA-based WPA Film Library has supplied more than two hours of footage for the DVD release of 'The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones'.

As Indiana Jones fever is whipped up, the WPA Film Library has announced their involvement with and footage supply for the DVD release of the Emmy Award-winning television series The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones.  Created by George Lucas, this is a globe-hopping journey through 20th-century history with Indiana Jones himself as a guide.

Indiana Jones DVD

The WPA Film Library was a major supplier of footage for the 94 historical documentaries that accompany the three-volume DVD release of The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones; all three volumes are now available. The WPA provided nearly two and a half hours of footage on a wide variety of subjects for almost all of the documentary special features, which total nearly 100 hours. The series tries to combine education and entertainment.  The special features on the DVD collections include extensive historical documentaries related to the episodes’ topics – among them, T.E. Lawrence (“Lawrence of Arabia”), painter Edgar Degas, British women’s suffrage, Eastern spirituality, the political formation of the modern Middle East, the birth of jazz,  the discovery of Egyptian treasures, and much more.  The creation of these DVDs was a long-term project spearheaded by Lucas and veteran CBS News producer David Schneider, and the WPA’s involvement on this production lasted four years.

The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones is available on DVD from Lucasfilm Ltd. and Paramount Home Entertainment. The WPA Film Library holds high-quality footage from over 100 collections of historical and contemporary material, including the entire British Pathe Newsreel Library chronicling almost 75 years of history on film, US politics from PBS affiliate WETA-TV, vintage home movies, campy educational and training films, TV commercials, travelogues, sports, celebrities, pop culture, and thousands of classic music performances (including pop, country, soul, big band, new wave and more). Contemporary collections at the WPA Film Library include high definition, film, and high-quality video footage. Scenics and slices of life from around the world; wildlife of the air, land and sea; and hot political topics are among recent acquisitions.
The WPA Film Library is located in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois.  Founded in 1987 by independent producers, the company is now a subsidiary of the MPI Media Group, a producer, distributor and licensor of movies and home entertainment.

Digital Media: Content Insider - Macworld/iWorld

This year's Macworld made us feel like we were visiting an old and ailing relative in the hospital. You felt obliged to go but didn't really like it because you remember when they were younger, more vital. Macworld/iWorld may not be close to drawing its final breath but a lot of rethinking, repositioning, investment will have to take place to make it a new, exciting, vital event. There's a place for it in the business world but someone will have to rethink what the iPhone, iPad, Mac system(s) are beyond neat devices to carry around and show off your latest game download.

IBS: The London Loudness Summit 2011

Graham Heath MIPS reports on a specialist one-day summit held in London in December 2011

So what is all this loudness malarkey about? As a TV Sound Supervisor I try to tickle PPM6s on the meters and, hopefully, make a decent enough balance that'll earn me my next crust. However, I'm constantly frustrated by the 'loudness' of network junctions, adverts, and even VT packages that are often unheard until the dress run (if you're lucky enough to get a dress!), and sometimes not even then.
